What are you grateful for?

Gratitude is being thankful

Gratitude is being thankful. With gratitude, you can acknowledge the goodness in your life.

Be grateful for what you have instead of constantly reaching for something new allows us to take stock of the good things that we already have. If you are constantly aiming for the next new thing or to one day be happy or successful, you can actually become quite miserable.

Instead, try to recognise the good things that are already there.

The Importance of a Gratitude List

Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

By creating a list of things you’re grateful for, you can reflect on the good things in your life.

Create Your Gratitude List

Think of some things you’re grateful for today. You can expand on why you are grateful for them. What positive impact do they have on your life at the moment? Or what impact do you have on them?

Write A Gratitude Letter

Another successful way to express gratitude is through writing a Gratitude Letter. Think of someone who positively influenced your life, but who you’ve never really thanked. Give yourself some time to write down how this person impacted your life and the appreciation you have for the joy they brought to you.

If possible, get in touch with that person and ask if you can meet but don’t tell them why. When you see them, read aloud to them the letter you wrote before handing it over. If you cannot meet them in person, make sure you post the letter to them (yes the old fashioned way) and if possible organise to call them once they have received it.

This may seem like a very contrived and “corny” exercise but studies have shown that this will increase both yours and the receivers feelings of happiness and overall well being.

A Final Thought

Don’t forget to review your gratitude list once a week! You can do this as often as you like, but try to do it at least once a week by accessing your list in your personal locker.
